Becoming a literacy teacher was my destiny. As a little girl all of my stuffed animals and dolls were 'taught' in my classroom and had plenty of books from my library. I love that my mother fostered this 'play' with real library book pockets from her own class library. She was a high school English teacher turned Media Specialist, or as we called her then- librarians. See it was my destiny to end up where I am now. Little did I know that public educators would be villianized and stressed with the heavy load of classroom duties instead of the beautiful and creative process of teaching itself. My new task goes well beyond play. My new task--Make sure our children have materials and topics that address their academic needs as well as their social emotional and cultural needs. I have really grown to this moment... Let's Go!

I keep dreaming of the day that we will be able to teach our kids what we know they need. Not what society forces upon them.
